Field Trips
The weekend field trips form an integral part of the study abroad program and complement the Foundation Course. Each trip takes place from Thursday to Sunday and includes both organised visits and free time for students. Accommodation is in tourist-class hotels and includes breakfast and dinner. Students are also provided with a stipend to cover the cost of food not included in the hotel package.
Galway and the West of Ireland
Galway city serves as the base for the weekend field trip to the West of Ireland. With its many Irish-speaking communities and beautiful rugged landscape, the West truly represents the rich history, culture and traditions of Ireland. Please refer to the Trip Itinerary below for complete details.
Northern Ireland
The weekend field trip to Northern Ireland includes one night in Derry and two nights in Belfast. In addition to viewing the beautiful coastal landscape of Antrim, students also visit sites of historical and social importance. Please refer to the Trip Itinerary below for complete details.
Day trips
During the semester abroad, students will have a walking tour of the city center of Dublin and a day visit to Kilmainham Gaol, a famous prison built in 1792. The walking tour typically takes place in the first week of the program and is part of the Foundation Course.
Personal Travel
Ireland’s close proximity to mainland Europe is very attractive to most study abroad students; many travel every weekend which is made possible, in part, by very inexpensive tickets available from several European airlines, including AerLingus and Ryan Air. We encourage students to travel within Ireland as well as to the United Kingdom and mainland Europe since they are all easily accessible and “weekend friendly”. We at DBS want students to extract the most out of their time abroad and we consider traveling outside Dublin part of the adventure.
