Academics

Accreditation

Over the past 35 years, DBS has earned a remarkable reputation for quality programs in a wide variety of disciplines including business, psychology, psychoanalysis, literature and drama as well as film, cultural and media studies. Most courses available to study abroad students (including business and liberal arts) are accredited by the Higher Education Training & Awards Council (HETAC), an external accrediting body of the Irish government. HETAC was established by the Government in June 2001, under the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act 1999. HETAC is the qualifications awarding body for third-level educational institutions outside the university sector. It is the legal successor to the National Council for Educational Awards. NCEA has played its part in Irish economic development and in shaping the educational future of third-level students for over a quarter of a century. During this time the demand for people with NCEA qualifications has grown dramatically. The status and value of these qualifications is assured and will continue to grow. HETAC will continue to take a modern, progressive approach to third-level education. While it will still undertake the validation of programmes, HETAC will take a more strategic view of Quality Assurance, setting and monitoring standards in higher education and training.
